309S cold-rolled stainless steel plate is a free-cutting stainless steel containing sulfur, which is used in occasions that mainly require easy cutting and high gloss. 309L is a variant of 309 stainless steel with a lower carbon content and is used where welding is required. The lower carbon content minimizes the precipitation of carbides in the heat-affected zone near the weld, which can lead to intergranular corrosion (weld attack) in stainless steels in some environments.
